Description: This program begins where Running Level I leaves off (although you needn't have participated in Level I to join!). In this fun and challenging 10 week program, we will meet twice per week and begin very slowly as we progress toward our goal of running a local road race. This is a great program for someone who runs a lot on the treadmill but would like to take it outdoors, or for someone who runs outdoors sporadically and would like to take their running to the next level.
We recommend that you already be able to comfortably run 2.5 miles continuously, regardless of pace. Increased attention will be given to improved endurance and understanding the importance of pacing. Our group workouts provide you with a safe, positive and supportive environment in which to take your fitness to the next level. We will provide online guidance and direction in the form of structured workouts/'homework' for you to do in between our regular group meetings. Towards the end of class we will select a local road race in which to participate. There is no obligation to participate in the goal race but we like to use it as extra motivation througout the program and we will of course be with you on race day for support and encouragement.
The class will meet at the McBurney YMCA located at 125 West 14th Street, between 6th & 7th avenues and we will have access to the locker rooms and shower facilities. We will warm up on our way to the West Side running path where the majority of class will take place.
